The George Floyd Act

George Floyd was killed by a criminal cop.  These instances of horrific policing can no longer be ignored by lawmakers and other law enforcers.  Things need to change.  Our justice system needs to change.  The augmentations need to come from defunding our criminal justice system and allocating the money to communities of all types.  Billions of dollars are wasted on asshole cops and practices that do not serve or protect the public.  In fact, it appears that the budgets and their expenditures are doing the exact opposite—terrorizing American citizens and even entire neighborhoods at large.  Again, this bullshit needs to end.

Rather than giving police departments more combat gear and the green light for destruction, there needs to be a serious concerted effort to reconstruct our academic, housing, healthcare, and employment systems.   These reforms—if wholeheartedly initiated—have been shown to reduce crime, victimizations, and change societies for the better.  It should be known that shifting the budgets around and allocating the resources to the above-mentioned societal cornerstones for a year or two would also drastically decrease the amount of police-citizen killings and abuses, as well as generate a more positive perception toward actions by the government—which includes police work.  Why not try it?  For some reason, the cops and lawmakers in this country do not want this, which, in turn, says that they do not care about making our nation a better place to live.  Arrest people, beat them up, kill them, and send them to jail is what they want.  Blue lives matter too, but the respect and desired heroism by law enforcers should have to be earned.  In other words, public servants do not automatically get respect because of their occupation—especially cops.  They have to earn the public’s trust.  This is done by being legitimate and unbiased.  Two things that have vanished in our legal system.

This recent death needs to be the last one by cops.  This bullshit where cops get to take no responsibility for their actions needs to end. The entire legal system is fucked and simultaneously  telling Americans, as well as the rest of the world, that we are hypocrites with our Constitution and that when redresses happen the hammer will come down.  This is what dictators want.  Stand up, be part of the change, or watch the deconstruction of your freedoms.  The erosion of our rights is happening right in front of our faces—especially Black faces.  It is up to us to let it happen or not!

Rest in peace, George!  Draft and enact criminal justice reform and social justice legislation  in the name of George Floyd and other victims of police-based homicide and abuses.  Send a message to all cops that includes letting them know that this bullshit will no longer be tolerated.
