Institutional Bigotry
Fuck racism and
prejudices against peoples’ chosen or innate characteristics. Rather than focusing on general theories of
institutional bigotry, this blog concentrates on organized disparagement in the
American jails and prisons. Particularly,
this piece depicts and explains how the correctional industrial complex in the
United States not only fosters negative human behaviors, but also deliberately
invokes the horrible processes to maintain their false credibility of dealing
with horrible offenders who require imprisonment and are incorrigible beings. Second to this, this piece also discusses how
there is uncontrollable racism and prejudices and how it (institutional
bigotry) cannot be controlled or obliterated by the correctional unions in this
country.
Institutional Bigotry
Definition: Prejudices against any individual traits that
are not congruent with another person’s views, expressions, or thoughts. Being a judgmental dick, basically.
Inducing Institutional Bigotry and False Propaganda
In county jails and
prisons all across the country there are routine decisions of organizing the offenders
into categories based on their race, ethnicity, religious views, gender
identification, sexual preferences, age, allegations, criminal convictions, and
medical issues. Moreover, and before we
go any further into this topic, it should be known that this blog is not fully
attacking the classification systems in the vast amount of correctional
facilities in this country, but is addressing the fostering of the lethargy by
the corrections officials in respect to not creating a system that is diverse
and culturally aware given the state of our current society. Of this, and to center on racism and
prejudices against ethnicity for example purposes, it should be known that many
correctional facilities in this country pair up inmates (cellmates) with
identical races or ethnicities to avoid conflict amongst inmates and
staff. Once more, please note that
avoiding conflict in jails and prisons is a good thing and this will be
discussed in the uncontrollable institutional bigotry portion of this blog. Nonetheless, this racial and ethnic selection
process induces the idea that offenders are unable to live amongst other people
who do not share the same racial or ethnic backgrounds. This process has profound effects on an
offender’s thought processes and reentry into free society. When an offender is given forced
institutional bigotry it permeates into every facet of their life. Normalcy in our current structure of jails
and prisons is not typical in society, and when an inmate takes on racist
values and negative prejudices they are on a path to carry the awful behaviors
with them upon their release. Once this
occurs, an offender is an immediate outcast in society and thus engages in
antisocial behaviors that are not productive in any fashion. Society takes on this burden and in many
cases has to deal with the recidivism and other poor behaviors because of the
institutional bigotry.
As aforementioned, not
only does this classification procedure produce concepts of racism and cultural
segregations, it allows for the correctional unions to acquire funds and
resources for “security reasons.”
Meaning that the correctional professionals use the forced racism, ethnic
prejudices, and other discriminations to their advantage in order to maintain
the notion that offenders are awful people and that the more resources used to
control every aspect of their living is necessary. By suggesting that inmates are unable to
behave normally while in prison with various types of people and different individual
characteristics, the corrections unions sustain their current trend of
providing no treatment services, cruel and unusual punishments, and budgets
that give unnecessary annual salaries.
Empowering horrible behaviors has positive results for those who work in
corrections; better equipment, greater safety, and larger paychecks to be
exact.
Uncontrollable Institutional Bigotry
On
the other hand, there are plenty of jerks inside of jails and prisons who are
racist and prejudiced against a person’s innate or chosen characteristics. Institutional classification is necessary for
these offenders and liberal approaches to justice will not work for them. Nothing can be done to cease hate inside of a
prisoner’s mind if they are unwilling to move past their egregious viewpoints. Even if social programs of anti-discrimination
for the incarcerated were to be created, it does not mean that the processes
will work for everyone. We have an
extremely complex culture and the right to be free in our thoughts. Because of this, utilizing a more diverse
corrections culture is very difficult to comprehend and seems impossible. The corrections professionals should augment
the systems that they use to classify offenders to extract those who are bigots
and allow those who are not to live in a manner that is personally and socially
acceptable. The change could come about
by sending discriminating inmates to predesignated locations after a screening
process.
